In a year that has already brought us memoirs like T Kira Maddens  Long Live the Tribe of Fatherless Girls  and Jayson Greenes  Once More We Saw Stars (hold on one moment while I cry…again), it can be tempting to start looking toward 2020 to see what else is coming down the pike. But dont count the rest of 2019 out yet. New Nonfiction Book Releases to Watch For There are a ton of new nonfiction book releases still to come before the year is out. Here are the ones Im most looking forward to. How to Be a Family by Dan Kois Im fascinated by how parents in other cultures raise their children, so this recently released reported memoir immediately piqued my interest. In it, the author and his family travel everywhere from New Zealand to the Netherlands to Kansas in order to get out of their self-described East Bubble and see how other families live. Can place change a family? I cant wait to find out! Drawing Power  edited by Diane Noomin This comics anthology, also recently released, contains contributions from more than 60 female comics creators, who use the form to share their experiences with sexual violence and harassment. Ive enjoyed previous issue-driven comics anthologies (Love Is Love  and  Comics for Choice both come to mind), so Im curious to see if this one feels just as strong. In his latest, he writes about growing up as a young, gay, black man in the south. Unfollow by Megan Phelps-Roper At this troubled time in our history, it can be different to understand and empathize with those who choose to be a part of communities built around hate. Which is why Im so curious about Ropers memoir about growing up in the Westboro Baptist Church (which her grandfather founded!) and, eventually, leaving it. Its set to be released by Farrar, Straus and Giroux on October 8. Commute by Erin Williams I do so love me a good graphic memoir, and Williamss memoir on female shame, and on being either sexualized or ignored on a daily basis, deeply resonates. It drives me to distraction having to wait until October 8 (Abrams ComicArts) to read this one. Burn It Down  edited by Lilly Dancyger Ive already mentioned that female anger has been the anchor of several recent books. On October 8, Dancyger releases her own collection through Seal Press. Im especially excited about this one because of the work Dancyger has done as an editor at both Narratively and Catapult. She is discerning in the work she chooses to develop and publish, and I expect that the pieces shes chosen for this anthology will be just as powerful. So I will absolutely be picking up a copy of  She Said on October 10 (Penguin Press), written by the two journalists who broke the story around Harvey Weinsteins serial sexual abuse. Dear Girls by Ali Wong This book (out October 15 from Random House) is on this list because I saw both of Wongs standup comedy specials on Netflix and, because they were so damn relatable and so damn funny,  determined that I would follow her to the ends of the earth. The end. The In-Betweens by Mira Ptacin Heres another author I would follow anywhere. Her gorgeously written memoir, Poor Your Soul,  was basically a master class in what a memoir could be. Lucky for me, her next book sounds just as amazing. This time, she looks outside the personal and reports on the longest-running camp devoted to Spiritualists and mediums. I mean, how cool is that!? Its out October 29 from Liveright and promises to be a fascinating read. Eat Joy  edited by Natalie Eve Garrett Hell, looking at this cover brings me joy and I havent even opened the book yet. On October 29, Black Balloon Publishing releases this collection of illustrated essays on how comfort food can help you through difficult times. Contributors include the likes of Carmen Maria Machado, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and Melissa Febos, so really, do I need to explain anything more? In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado Speaking of Carmen Maria Machado, I think its criminal that two years have passed since Her Body and Other Parties.  Am I expected to just not read new work from Carmen Maria Machado for two whole years!? Her previous book was a collection of speculative fiction that explored unapologetic female desire and autonomy. Her latest (out November 5 from Graywolf Press) is a memoir about domestic abuse, in which she struggles to make sense of the damaging relationship in which she found herself, leaning on various narrative tropes in order to unpack events in her life. Plate Tectonics by Margaux Motin Finally, Im looking forward to this graphic memoir (out December 3 from Archaia) in which Motin shares the story of getting divorced, raising a child on her own, and…finding love again? On December 09, 1946, the task of creating an independent constitution of the Constitution of India was initiated. The House of Representatives adopted a draft dowry on November 26, 1947 and these days, which came into being on J anuary 26, 1950, in the history of New India are important.The Constituent Assembly of India consists of eleven sessions. Its first six sessions are to approve the decisions of the objectives, and the Fundamental Rights, Federation, Provincial Constitution, Minorities, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes; the verification process is based on the reports submitted as per the terms. The other session is entirely dedicated to resaved draft constitution. These eleven sessions took place in 165 days. At 114 days a draft resolution was taken by the constitution.Ambedkar was unanimously elected as president of drafting committee on 29 August 1947 by the assembly. 30, August, 1947, taken to draft to 114 days. By the end of the draft, 395 articles and 08 schedules were prepared. Around 7635 amendments were listed for amendment. Of these, 2473 amendments were forwarded to discuses in front of the house. The Supreme Cour t refers to the scholarly discussions presented by Ambedkar in the constitution discussions in his judgment. For example, in the Mandal Commissions decision, the words of Ambedkar used to be based on the guarantees of the minority community. One or two people were far away from Delhi and perhaps reasons of health did not permit them to attend. So it happened ultimately no doubt that we are grateful to him for having achieved this task in a manner which is undoubtedly commendable. But my point really is that the attention that was due to a matter like this has not been given to it by the Committee as a whole. Valerie Jean Solanas (April 9, 1936 – April 25, 1988) was a radical feminist activist and author. Her major claims to fame were her SCUM Manifesto and her attempt on the life of Andy Warhol. Critical Writings and Involvement With Warhol Solanas moved to New York City to write, and she earned money through begging and prostitution or through waitressing. She wrote an autobiographical short story, as well as a play about a prostitute that was so provocative and obscene that, when she approached Andy Warhol about producing it, he thought it was a trap by the police. To assuage her anger, he cast her in a small part in one of his films. After signing an informal contract with publisher Maurice Girodias, she became paranoid that he had deceived her to steal her work and that he and Warhol were conspiring against her. On June 3, 1968, Solanas went to producer Margo Feiden, and, after an unsuccessful attempt to persuade Feiden to produce her play, reportedly vowed that Feiden would produce her play because she was about to become famous for killing Warhol. Solanas confessed to shooting Andy Warhol in 1968, claiming she had good reason. Bettmann/Getty Images That same afternoon, Solanas tried to make good on her threat. She went to Warhol’s studio, The Factory, met Warhol there, and shot him and art critic Mario Amaya. Warhol underwent successful surgery and made a recovery, though he barely survived and suffered physical effects for the rest of his life. Solanas turned herself in, claiming in court that Warhol was out to own and ruin her career, and was sent for psychiatric evaluation. Initially deemed unfit to stand trial, she was eventually diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, pled guilty to assault, and was sentenced to three years in prison. The SCUM Manifesto and Solanas Radical Feminism Solanas’ best known work was her SCUM Manifesto, an intensive critique of patriarchal culture. The premise of the text was that men had managed to ruin the world and that women must overthrow society and eliminate the male sex altogether in other to fix the broken world. While critiquing patriarchal constructs is a common concept in feminist literature, Solanas took it much farther by suggesting that men were not only a problem as part of the deep-rooted patriarchy, but that they were inherently bad and useless. The manifesto also had as a core belief the concept of men as incomplete females and lacking empathy. Solanas theorized that their whole lives were spent trying to live vicariously through the women around them, and that their lack of a second X chromosome made them mentally and emotionally inferior. Her vision of a utopian future is one that is wholly automated and wholly without men. These extreme opinions put her at odds with most of the contemporary feminist movement. Later Life and Legacy Although many mainstream feminist movements disavowed Solanas’ radicalism, others embraced it, and the media reported on it. Solanas herself was reportedly disinterested in contemporary feminist organizations and dismissive of their goals as not radical enough. After being released from prison in 1971, she started stalking Warhol and several others. As a result, she was re-arrested, institutionalized, and subsequently vanished from the public altogether. In the later years of her life, Solanas reportedly continued writing, with at least one semi-autobiographical text rumored to be in the works. By the mid-1980s, Solanas had left New York for good and moved to San Francisco, where she reportedly changed her name to Onz Loh and continued revising her SCUM Manifesto.  She died of pneumonia at the age of 52 at the Bristol Hotel in San Francisco on April 25, 1988. She may have been working on something new at the time of her death, but her mother burned all her belongings after her death, so any new writings would have been lost. According to Jarvis (1998), the Frankfurt school asserts there is no real â€Å"thing† as society; rather it is an interpretation that is based on the subjectivity of one who approaches it as a discipline. Adorno opposes the totalizing aspects of theory when it claims to complete knowledge about the operat ion of social forces or historical evolution. He see this in Freud, Weber, Durkheim, and Marx, in their interpretive frameworks that discuss the operation of society from different perspectives, but share a totalitarianism of meaning which will limit interpretation to a range of values. As Adorno writes in â€Å"Negative Dialectics† (1970), â€Å"If one speaks in the newest aesthetic debates of anti-drama and anti-heroes, then Negative Dialectics, which holds itself distant from all aesthetic themes, could be called an anti-system.†4 If â€Å"Negative Dialectics† represents an anti-system, then Auschwitz on the other extreme represents the fully totalitarian aspects of a system in application. These are the fuel delivery system, air induction system, and the electronic control system. The fuel delivery system consists of the fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel delivery pipe (fuel rail), fuel injector, fuel pressure regulator, and fuel return pipe. Fuel is delivered from the tank to the injector by means of an electric fuel pump. The pump is typically located in or near the fuel tank. Contaminants are filtered out by a high capacity in line fuel filter. Fuel is maintained at a constant pressure by means of a fuel pressure regulator. Any fuel which is not delivered to the intake manifold by the injector is returned to the tank through a fuel return pipe. The Air Induction System The air induction system consists of the air cleaner, air flow meter, throttle valve, air intake chamber, intake manifold runner, and intake valve. When the throttle valve is opened, air flows through the air cleaner, through the air flow meter (on L type systems), past the throttle valve, and through a well tuned intake manifold runner to the intake valve. Air delivered to the engine is a function of driver demand. As the throttle valve is opened further, more air is allowed to enter the engine cylinders. Mostly the L type EFI system measures air flow directly by using an air flow meter. The D type EFI system measures air flow indirectly by monitoring the pressure in the intake manifold. The ECU turns the injectors on for a precise amount of time, referred to as injection pulse width or injection duration, to deliver the proper air/fuel ratio to the engine. Basic System Operation Air enters the engine through the air induction system where it is measured by the air flow meter. As the air flows into the cylinder, fuel is mixed into the air by the fuel injector. Fuel injectors are arranged in the intake manifold behind each intake valve. The injectors are electrical solenoids which are operated by the ECU. The ECU pulses the injector by switching the injector ground circuit on and off. When the injector is turned on, it opens, spraying atomized fuel at the back side of the intake valve. As fuel is sprayed into the intake airstream, it mixes with the incoming air and vaporizes due to the low pressures in the intake manifold. The ECU signals the injector to deliver just enough fuel to achieve an ideal air/fuel ratio of 14.7:1, often referred to as stoichiometry. The precise amount of fuel delivered to the engine is a function of ECU control. The ECU determines the basic injection quantity based upon measured intake air volume and engine rpm. Depending on engine operating conditions, injection quantity will vary. The ECU monitors variables such as coolant temperature, engine speed, throttle angle, and exhaust oxygen content and makes injection corrections which determine final injection quantity. WHAT ONE HAS TO DO TO CONVERT CARB TO EFI IN CASE OF A CAR Heres what is required for complete conversion EFI head and intake manifold with everything still attached. Crossover tube, MAF sensor and air box Fuel tank with fuel pump Entire wiring harness from the car. EFI intake and EFI head Carb head and EFI components installed Certain small things that we found were different were: There was some sort of smog device bolted to where the EFI fuel filter goes. It isnt used with EFI and was discarded as were the air tubes that go above the header. The high pressure fuel line has to be either made or salvaged. The vacuum hose for the brake booster is different between carb and EFI. The upper radiator hose is different between carb and EFI The good thing is that two of the plugs that go into the computer can be disconnected and are only go to the engine. So, if you unplug these from the intake, then pull the intake intact. The third plug has the power and other things going to it for the EFI. All game is to take your time and check each wire coming out of the computer. There seems to be only 3 components outside of the normal EFI stuff.   The main EFI relay located in the interior fuse panel under the drivers side dash. The circuit opening relay located under the passenger side dash. This is controlled by the MAF sensor and turns on and off the fuel pump. It is also tied into the main EFI relay. The solenoid resistor is connected to a switched power source (IGN) and goes to the fuel injectors. This is located in the engine compartment passneger side. Pretty much, the only thing that is not straight forward is how these three components are wired.   Mathematical Formulation; Top of Form Most EFI systems have a standard set of sensors. These include: The  Barometric Pressure (BARO) Sensor, which provides the ECU with the atmospheric air pressure reading. The  Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor, which provides the ECU with the engines current operating temperature. This is important because fuel vaporization varies for different engine temperatures. A cold engine requires more fuel while a hot engine requires less. The  Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor, which the ECU needs to take into account when determining pulse duration. The  Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor, which is a tube positioned after the air filter in the air intake duct. The MAF sensor has a fine platinum wire that spans across the tube. The wire is heated by electrical current to maintain a constant temperature above ambient. The air flow past the wire cools the wire and more current is required to maintain the constant temperature. Thus, the amount of current required to maintain the constant temperature indicates the air flow rate. The air flow rate is divided by RPM to determine the pulse duration. The  Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor, which uses manifold vacuum to measure engine load. An EFI system that uses a MAP sensor does not require a MAF sensor as it can use the input from the MAP sensor to determine the required pulse duration. The  Oxygen Sensor (O2S), which is used to measure the amount of oxygen that is not consumed during combustion. This is important for the correct operation of the catalyst converter and is used for emissions control rather than performance or economy. The O2S is located in the exhaust system and is an after-the-fact measure of the air/fuel ratio. Too much unburnt fuel in the exhaust indicates a lean mixture while too little oxygen indicates a rich mixture. The  Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor, which is important for timing purposes as it tells the ECU which spark plug to fire and which injector to open at any given point in the  Otto cycle. The  Throttle Position (TP) Sensor, which is another important sensor as the throttle position and the rate of change in the throttle position indicates the what the diver wants the car to do. Top of Form The modifications we can perform on an  OEM EFI  are somewhat limited because the OEM ECU is  not reprogrammable. However, there are a number of things we learned that we mechanical engineers do to modify the EFI system without having to reprogram the ECU. We can  increase the fuel pressure  as this is one reading that the ECU of a normal efi kit used in the cultus eg does not take into account it assumes the fuel pressure is a constant 30 psi(an estimated value given by Pak Suzuki ) above intake manifold pressure; we can  intercept the pulse signal  form the ECU, alter it using input from the manifold pressure and send it to the injector; we can  increase the injector nozzle size; or   increase the number of injectors. However, your best option, performance wise, is to install an  aftermarket ECU. In the next few pages well discuss each of these options. Bottom of Form Bottom of Form Top of Form There are a few important factors that our study shows that must be taken into account when  installing an efi engine. These are: the  pulse duration  of the injectors and the  duty cycle. The injector pulse duration is the amount of time that the injector is held open so that it can inject fuel into the combustion chamber. The pulse duration is controlled by the engine control unit (ECU) and is dependent on various sensors in the electronic fuel injection (EFI) system. The longer the pulse duration, the more fuel is added to the air/fuel mixture. The amount of fuel required at any one time varies by the amount of  air flow, the  air density, the  engine load, and the  engine temperature. Therefore the pulse duration will vary. However, there is only a limited amount of time that the injector can be held open at each revolution of the engine. This amount of time is reduced as  engine speed  increases. For example, at 600 RPM the available time is 0.1 seconds (60 seconds in a minute divided by 600 revolutions) but at 6,000 RPM it is only 0.01 seconds. The pulse duration relative to the available time at the engine  red line  is called the duty cycle and is expressed as a percentage. Thus a duty cycle of 80% means that at the engine red line the pulse duration (the amount of time the injector is help open) is 80% of the available time. Top of Form INCREASING THE DUTY CYCLE Top of Form INCREASING INJECTOR NOZZLE SIZE Top of Form Performance ECU Chips Top of Form Replacing the  stock ECU chip  with a  reprogrammed performance chip  is a good option for anything up to a 10% increase in engine power. This is mainly due to the way in which the stock ECU chip is programmed. In essence, the stock ECU is programmed for optimal performance at  peak torque  so as this ensures that the car is drivable at low engine speeds. As most cars would be driven at low engine speeds of up to 3,500 RPM, ensuring that the car drives perfectly at these engine speeds is perfectly reasonable; unless you want to modify your car! A reprogrammed performance chip will be programmed for optimal performance up to the  engine red line, releasing a moderate power increase but making the car less drivable at lower engine speeds. Top of Form THE FUEL PICKUP The fuel pickup should also get some consideration, especially on a modified street race car with a  steel fuel tank. On such vehicles the fuel level in the fuel tank can drop below the fuel pickup during  hard cornering  or  heavy acceleration  and  heavy braking  and can cause a momentary drop in fuel pressure and engine performance. The solution is to have a  secondary fuel pump  supply a small  fuel reservoir  or swirl pot that feels the primary fuel pumps. The fuel reservoir is a simple cylinder with an fuel inlet from the secondary pump at the side, a fuel return line at the top and fuel pickup lines to the primary pumps at the bottom. The fuel reservoir should have a capacity of at least 1 liter and should be mounted low, beside the fuel tank. With a fuel reservoir, the primary fuel pumps will always have a fuel supply even under hard cornering of heavy acceleration and braking conditions.
